Commissioned By: Third space
This project involved the design, fabrication, and installation of a pipe-plenum exhaust system for the chemistry laboratory at Third Space, Udaipur. The system was engineered to safely capture, channel, and discharge laboratory exhaust air while meeting core performance, safety, and material standards for chemical workspaces.
Location: Chemistry Laboratory, Third Space, Udaipur
Scope: Fabrication and installation of pipe-plenum exhaust system, manifold assembly, balancing dampers, stack integration
Integration: Compatible with existing lab infrastructure and roof discharge configuration
Material Finish: Chemical-resistant coating for durability and reduced maintenance
Laboratory exhaust systems differ fundamentally from standard HVAC ventilation. They must:
Handle hazardous vapours, fumes, and chemical by-products.
Maintain directional airflow to prevent contamination spread.
Operate continuously and reliably under variable load conditions.
The fabricated plenum serves as a central collection chamber connecting multiple extraction points to the main exhaust duct, ensuring safe and efficient removal of airborne contaminants.
Pipe-Plenum Layout: Straight and direct routing minimizes friction losses and pressure drops.
Material Selection: Corrosion-resistant steel with protective coating suitable for chemical environments.
Plenum Integration: Balanced dampers and distribution geometry maintain consistent airflow even under fluctuating conditions.
Exhaust Path: Designed for the shortest, most direct run from fume sources to discharge, reducing turbulence and improving efficiency.
Bypass Control: Optional bypass plenum maintains discharge velocity and plume rise while optimizing energy use.
All duct joints fully welded and sealed to eliminate leakage of hazardous air.
Rigid ducting used throughout (no flexible connectors) for reliability and long service life.
Slight slope provided in horizontal sections to drain condensate and moisture.
Maintenance access points integrated for inspection, cleaning, and future upgrades.
Exhaust labelling with flow direction and hazard classification for compliance and safety.
